Hi guys! What’s up? Did you try as I say at my last blog? Screenplay and Us#1 If yes then ready
 to be bore in this part cause I have so many lectures to deliver you as the old grumpy
professor who did Ph.D in screen writing. Wait! Don’t get me wrong cause I didn’t have
 any Ph.D degree on this but I made a little bit research on screenwriting. Get ready for
lectures!!! Bring your coffee with you, take a notebook and think that you are a screen
writer because no one can be a pro screen writer with a course. It takes time even the 
oldest screen writer discovers new ideas, new type of storytelling. So, there is nothing
like one time learning in screen writing. So, let’s go on screen writing.

The things we will learn today,

•  Types of Screenplay (Film) 
•  Film Screenplay Structure.

 

   Types of Screenplay

Basically, screenplay is the pre version of a visual movie. Some new bee makes it complicated. But it
 just a storytelling. How you will tell the story, it can be linear structure, non linear structure whatever
your story demand and how you planned. So, we got some ways or medium to write script. Those are,

•         Film 
•        TV (One Hour)
•        TV Shows Stage play

That’s all for a beginner. So today we will learn about film screenplay.

 

    Film Screenplay Structure :

 A film screenplay should have at least 70-100 pages. Most movie scripts have 110 pages. But it doesn’t
 matter how many pages have the screenplay it’s always about the story how you tell, how you write the
 scene, make clear your ideas through the scene. It’s like a wall made with bricks like that screenplay
 made with scenes. First, we come to the structure.

You will find templates in final draft, writer duet, studio binder. Final draft have more templates.

The Structure:

•     Scene Heading:

Scene heading is the first step to write a scene. First, you should mention where is the scene. Is it
 outdoor or indoor? If outdoor it will be EXT. (exterior) or it is in indoor it will be INT. (interior) then
put a dot. Now write name of the place it can be someone’s house; it can be at park. It’s choice the put a
hyphen (-) now write the time, software have suggestion about time it can be DAY, NIGHT, EVENING,
DAWN, SAME TIME, MOMENTS LATER etc. Remember the whole heading will be written in
CAPITAL LETTER.

 

Example :

 

INT. JOHN’S HOME – DAY

EXT. PARK – EVENING

 

•  Action :

Action meaning the descriptions of the scene where it must be mention what is each character doing,
 how the entering in the scene, what kind of environment it is. It doesn’t maintain any high grammar
 just how you imagine the scene opening, characters action just write down. Don’t worry your teacher
isn’t going to marking this.

 

•         Character :

Your screenplay have characters and you have to write their name. the  name  could be anything.

 

•       Parenthetical :

Normally parenthetical means the character is doing something while delivering dialogue. It makes a
 great imagine for the reader. It is written in brackets ().

 

•         Dialogues :

Don’t worry. You find it hard? Just use your own speaking style it develops day by day.

 

•      Transition:

It indicates how you or how the movie is shifting the scene. Normally we don’t write this because it can
be change during shoot and depends on director. It is written on the right alignment of the script.

 Here is the example of format :

 

 

Necessary Stuffs to Know :

1.     Margin :

a.     1.5 inch margin on the left of the page

b.     1 inch margin on the right of the page

c.     1 inch on the of the top and bottom of the page

d.     Each page should have approximately 55 lines

e.     The dialogue block starts 2.5 inches from the left side of the page

f.      Character names must have uppercase letters and be positioned starting 3.7 inches from
 the left side of the page

g.     Page numbers are positioned in the top right corner with a 0.5 inch margin from the top
of the page. The first page shall not be numbered, and each number is followed by a
period. 

·         Software does this stuff automatically.

•     StudioBinder

 

·        Note for Today :

1.     Write the character establishment in first 5 pages.

2.     Each pages are 1 minutes visual.

3.     While character establishment write their age, how they dressed, how they look.
